Description
Schieferkopf Franken Silvaner 2017
Passionate about wines with character that express the complexity of their terroir, it is not surprising that Michel Chapoutier is a great lover of Alsace wines, with their mineral character and their distinctive grape varieties and terroirs. Acquiring his own domaine and creating premium and ultra premium wines, was therefore the natural thing to do. He dreamt of the idea for a while, then, in 2006, he started to discuss it with 4 wine-loving friends, suggesting they band together “to make a fine Riesling in Alsace”. After several endeavours, the “Club of 5” finally set up in Le Felsberg in Bernardvillé, near Reichsfeld, in 2009, and the adventure commenced. The vineyards, planted on steep slopes, were worked diligently and meticulously. The soil, made up of blue schist and variable amounts of quartz inclusions depending on the parcel, particularly suited the Riesling. This terroir is unique in Alsace. The first bottles of Schieferkopf were released in 2011.
